Evgeny Bushkov
After winning prizes in four major international violin competitions – the Wieniawski in
Poznan (1986, 1 st prize), the Queen Elisabeth in Brussels (1989, 3d prize), the Tchaikovsky
in Moscow (1990, 2d prize), and the first Henryk Szeryng Foundation Award in Monte-
Carlo (1992) – Dr. Evgeny Bushkov enjoyed an extensive solo career, performing in the
most prestigious European concert venues, including the Musikverein and Konzerthaus in
Vienna, the Philharmonic Hall and Schauspielhaus in Berlin, The Royal Concertgebouw in
Amsterdam, the Salle Pleyel in Paris, the Auditorio Nacional de Música in Madrid, and many
others. He took part in well-known festivals around the globe as both a soloist and
chamber musician. There, his partners were Boris Bloch, Boris Garlitsky, Leonid Gorokhov,
Natalia Gutman, Alexey Lubimov, Benedetto Lupo, Boris Pergamentschikov, and Stephen
Prutsman, among others. Dr. Bushkov appeared with orchestras conducted by Vladimir
Fedosseev, Erich Gerbel, Armin Jordan, Arnold Katz, Dmitry Kitayenko, Pavel Kogan, Yakov
Kreizberg, Jan Latham-Koenig, Sir Charles Mackerras, Pinchas Steinberg, Martin Turnovsky,
and many others. He has released several CDs on the “Harmonia Mundi,” “Valois-Auvidis,”
and “Discover-Koch” labels.
Dr. Bushkov was born in Moscow to a family of violinists and began studying his family
instrument at the age of five. Soon, he was accepted to the prestigious Central Music
School of the Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory where his teachers were Zinaida Guilels,
Leonid Kogan, and Viktor Tretiakov. He also had the privilege of studying chamber music
under the guidance of renowned musician Sergey Dizhur (former student of Heinrich
Neuhaus). Having graduated in 1986, he continued his studies at the Moscow Tchaikovsky
Conservatory in the class of his mother Zoria Shikhmurzajeva (a former student of the
legendary Abram Yampolsky) and Alexander Vinnitsky, receiving his doctorate in 1993.
In 2000, due to a development of focal dystonia in his left-hand, Dr. Bushkov stopped
playing and dedicated himself to conducting and violin pedagogy. The same year Dr. Bushkov was invited to join the String Department faculty and the Historic and Contemporary music performance department at the Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory,
where he continues to teach today. From 2019 to 2022 he was String Department Chair at the Moscow Central Music school of the Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory.
Dr. Bushkov’s students continue winning international competitions and awards and can
be found in many leading Russian orchestras. He has given masterclasses worldwide,
including institutions such as Luxeuil Festival in France, Interlochen Arts Academy in
Michigan, USA, Cleveland Institute of Music, University of North Texas, Stellenbosch Music
Festival in South Africa, the National Center of Performing Arts NCPA in Mumbai, India, and
the Keshet Eilon Summer Master Course in Israel.
In summer 2022 he was invited to teach at the “Keshet Eilon” International Summer academy in Israel. Since 2023 Dr. Bushkov teaches regularly at the “Talent Music” Summer Masteclasses in Brescia, Italy. Since fall 2023 Evgeny Bushkov has been a faculty member of the Jerusalem Academy of Music and Dance.
