This year’s Seven at 7 Concert Series will present a wide array of spirit-moving music—from absolute music that will stir your senses, to a performance that will connect sound and movement; from the epic heights of the German song, to the earthly vulgarities of Mozart’s canons; from the crystal tones of Scarlatti, to the dense, haunting sounds of Ravel and Lili Boulanger.
The season will open with a concert of epic Israeli songs that speak to Israeli women’s struggles to find their footing and to recast their images after October 7, performed by vocal artist Victoria Hanna, and pianist Omri Mor.
In the second performance, dancer and choreographer Miriam Engel, cellist Maya Belsitzman, and percussionist Matan Ephrat will intertwine sound and movement. This is not a dance accompanied by music but a performance where sound and movement interwined.
Two concerts will be dedicated to the trio ensemble. One will include a string trio by Ysaÿe, and the Divertimento in E Flat Major by Mozart—a highlight of the string trio repertoire. The other will consist of piano trios that present tonal landscapes previously unheard and never surpassed by Ravel and Lili Boulanger.
Mezzo-soprano Edna Prochnik and pianist Anna Keiserman will present Mahler songs alongside Schumann’s A Woman’s Love and Life, a dramatic song-cycle with lyrics by German poet Adelbert von Chamisso that offers a strange yet stirring portrait of femininity in the Romantic era.
The profanities will be those issued from the pen of Mozart. Vocal canons with surprising lyrics, such as a spectacular canon set to the words, “Lick my ass,” will not only offer beautiful music, but glimpses into Mozart’s character, and the Classical-era canon tradition.
The season will conclude with a musical version of fine lace—Scarlatti’s keyboard sonatas performed by Guy Slapak and Mischa Zerzkel, who wowed audiences with performances of Rossini and Ravel in previous seasons of the Seven at 7 Concert Series.
